I’m thinking out loud. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says
that “prayer is the lifting up of the mind and heart to God.” I think
that’s amazing! We can actually communicate with God! He listens to
us, and, if we still our minds and hearts, we might be able to hear His
responses to us.
Why does God need prayer? The truth of the matter is that God does
not need our prayers, but we need prayer to become closer to God.
Prayers don’t change God, but God changes us through prayer.
Why doesn’t God answer my prayers? Doesn’t He hear me? God hears
all of our prayers, and He answers all of our prayers. Our God is very
creative. We might not even realize until much later that He did answer
our prayer, just not in the way we thought He should. God hears
everything! He knows everything! We are His children! God, as our
Father, wants only the best for us. He might answer our prayers just as
we asked Him to do, but He also might whisper to us, “No, not now.” or
“This is not good for you.” God knows the past, the present, and the
future. He sees it as now. He knows what will happen if He were to
answer our prayers as we would like. We can’t change God.
We can only change ourselves.
I’m a good person. I try to obey the commandments. I’m asking only
for the good. I pray everyday. I am persistent. God still doesn’t
Remember, prayer is more than just petition. Prayer is
praise for God. Prayer is thanksgiving. Prayer is selfless. Prayer is
an expression of love for God. Sometimes, we just need to get over
ourselves and remember that God is not just a higher power, He is God.
We owe him our praise and thanksgiving. We need to move over and let
God be God. He will reveal himself to us, and if He doesn’t answer our
prayer the way we would like Him to do, then, it’s not His Will. Accept
that and move on.
I’ve prayed for some very important things, like ending world hunger
and world peace. Tell me. What’s going on with God? Has He changed His
mind about this kind of stuff?
God never changes. He is the same
today as He was 2,000 years ago and as He will be 2,000 years from now.
God is love. He is the great I AM. God is the creator. God is the
Redeemer. God is the Paraclete. How can God wish anything but good for
His children? He loves us! He loves us so much that He gave us the
gift of free will. We make choices about good and evil everyday. How
are we doing with peace? Are we kind to our families? Are we kind to
our neighbors, even the ones who irritate us? Are we feeding the
hungry? Are we donating to the causes which feed people and clothe
them? Are we the love of God on earth? Think about it. Jesus said
that His grace is sufficient for us. Ask for the grace. Take matters
into your own hands. Ask to be the giver of peace. Ask for peace in
yoru family or your neighborhood. Ask. God hears, and He will never
