 Mary, the Mother of Jesus,

and

Elizabeth, the Mother of John.

Both pregnant.

Elizabeth was well beyond the age of bearing children, yet, through God’s Mercy, she and her husband, Zacheriah, conceived a son whom they named

John.

Mary, after giving her fiat to the angel,

 by the power of the Holy Spirit, conceived a Child who would be called,

the Son of God,

according to the promise of the Angel Gabriel.

His Name would be

Jesus.

After the angel departed, Mary set out to see Elizabeth.

The prayer which the angel began,

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.  Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus,” was completed by Elizabeth when she saw Mary.

And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit  and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.   Luke 1: 42

Prayer permeated their lives.

Mary began to praise and thank God for all He had done.

And Mary said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
    and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
 for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.
    Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
 for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
    and holy is his name.
 His mercy is for those who fear him
    from generation to generation.

He has shown strength with his arm;
    he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
 He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,

 and lifted up the lowly;
 he has filled the hungry with good things,
    and sent the rich away empty.
 He has helped his servant Israel,
    in remembrance of his mercy,
according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
    to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

Luke 1: 46-55

The Apostle to the Gentiles said,

Rejoice always,  pray without ceasing,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18

Mama Mary did.  She really did.
